Be Renewed | Grand Rapids Photographer
It’s been a quiet time for Marc Photography. This time of year is so strange for me… May-December I hustle, hustle, hustle photographing weddings and families. Being a Grand Rapids wedding photographer means we travel a bit around West Michigan and after awhile I really look forward to my slow season. To be renewed. To think of new goals to work towards for the upcoming year. To rest. And I only need a couple of quiet weeks around Marc Photography to feel renewed.
Something that happened in this slow season, though, is my middle daughter has been having some scary health scares. I’ll update about this in another post. But every day, I find myself sitting on the floor while Sadie plays, listening to worship music, and just breathing. Thinking about what’s next for me, trying not to worry about her.
In the Quiet Time
This year, in the quiet time, God has placed upon my heart yet again a project started back in 2015 before my Sadie was born. You probably remember, I started Take Heart encouragement cards. Well, I decided to open an online Market called TK & Co. to sell my Take Heart cards that I design, LipSense, and Fine Art Photography.
First of all, it has really renewed my passion for photography and given me something to focus on! I’m not one to sit, rather I really love to be doing something. I brought back all of the designs I had before, however, I’m adding new hand-drawn designs that I am even more excited about. I hope to make a video soon showing the process of how each card is created.
What This Means For You
Because I am currently working on new designs, I would love to get some feedback from you on the old Take Heart designs. Hop on over to TK & Co. Market and request to join the group to view them and let me know what you think.
I’ll be honest… juggling 2 kids, a complicated pregnancy, and being self-employed last summer was pretty difficult. It was hard enough just getting the day-to-day things done… you know, cooking… cleaning… that my business really suffered. I found myself way behind on editing, sneak peeks, and writing on my blog, it was overwhelming.
But God is faithful, he knew I needed sweet Sadie in my life. And although I was struggling most of last year, in the past 4-6 months, I’ve realized just how much I love photography. For the past several years God has blessed me with the opportunity to be at home with my girls through creating memories for other people. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for that. Sadly though, my business suffered and I saw a decrease in the amazing clients I’m used to photographing each spring. This momma needs to get out of the house for a few hours a day and talk to adults – or at least photograph them! That’s some real honesty for you right there!
So, now that I have found a schedule that works for my family I’ve returned to photography full-time(ish). I’ve created our new Simplified Sessions that take all of the planning and hassle of scheduling your family pictures, and gives you a pretty spectacular deal. Simplified Sessions, in a nut shell, are photo sessions only available twice a month, at a set location. You’ll receive the session for families up to 6 people, 5 digital images with printing opportunities, and a $15 print credit all for $100. I’ve never offered digital images with printing rights in a portrait session EVER.
It’s a crazy good deal!
It’s super easy to snag your spot… just visit our booking page find the date or location you like, and pick a time. You’ll receive loads of information from me that will make your session a breeze.
Our classic Lifestyle Sessions are still available… these are completely customize-able for what fits YOU! These sessions can also be scheduled on our booking page. 🙂
Don’t need your kiddos photographed or aren’t ready to get in front of the camera for your family photos? No problem – I would love it if you would share this with someone who may be interested. A friendly reminder that we have always offered a $20 print credit for new referrals. 🙂
I’m a list maker. I love researching and compiling stats. So, a few weeks ago, around the time of MP’s 8th birthday, I decided to sit down for awhile and figure out lots of numbers related to how we’ve spent the last years working at Marc Photography. I decided it would be a fun game to have you all guess how many photos Andrew and I had taken so far in our career. I was amazed to see all of the guesses ranging from 50,000 to almost 3,000,000. The prize at stake was a free photo session and the winner was only about 13,000 off!
Some of these numbers are hard to believe and other’s just make me shake my head. Almost 2,500 hours spent editing… my butt feels sore just thinking about it!
One stat that would be nearly impossible for me to figure out would be the amount time I have spent
bossing Andrew around working with Andrew. 🙂 I’m not going to lie and say every session working together has been (in the words of my daughter) easy peasy. There’s been quite a few times when we’ve been driving to a session or wedding and have been completely irritated with each other. But the beauty with working together is that once we are at a session, we are 100% concentrated on our clients and photography. This means shutting off our personal emotions and focusing on the client (pun intended 🙂 ). What this means for our marriage is time to cool down; And by the time the session is done, we’re typically completely over whatever had us upset in the first place. Working with Andrew wit the business these last 8 years has really been one of the best parts of our marriage.
Another stat that would be nearly impossible for me to figure out would be the number of hours our family members have helped us out with watching our kiddos while we are photographing sessions & weddings. It’s been a blessing to know our girls are well taken care of while Andrew and I work to grow our business which allows me to be a work-from-home / stay-at-home mom. So thank you to Mom, Grandma, & the Aunts who take such good care of our daughters.
I’m just so thankful for what God has blessed me with. My family, successful business, and caring clients. So here’s to another 8 crazy years. I can’t wait to see what they bring.
Yes… you, right there.
You’re the one I’m talking to. The one who is so exhausted from the everyday life as a mom. You’ve been dropping off and picking kids up from school, covered in glitter from the school project that was due with 2 days notice, your dishwasher is full and your dryer has a heaping pile of clothes on top… unfortunately, you forgot 3 days ago if they were clean or dirty. Your brain hurts from the
argument discussion with your 4 year old about how many bites they have to eat at dinner, and you may or may not have spit up on your shirt.
The very last thing that you want to do is get in front of a camera. I’m right there with you, trust me. All that listed above is my life, 3 kids, laundry, and spit up. But as we look ahead to Mothers Day– hey, May can’t come soon enough in my book! — we think about a gift that is not only something special for you, but that is a precious document for your children about their mom… who in their eyes… has it all together. Because you do.
Every hug, Eskimo kiss, tear wiped away, time spent coloring, the every day tasks of providing a safe and comfortable home for your children are all pieces of the amazing mom that you are.
I want you to step away from the chores and have your time in front of the camera with your kiddos. Photos with your children are truly the best gift that you could give them. A documented moment of a kiss or a squeeze from momma. <3

And if you still aren’t convinced, please watch the video below…
She was looking pretty frumpy in her old age. This is understandable considering the amount of hard work and labor she’s been through in her time. Thousands upon thousands of views made her want to completely ditch her old look and start hanging out with the younger crowd. And what better time than her birthday? So here we are with the new look!
Happy Birthday to Marc Photography!
My very first baby, I can’t believe it’s been 8 years already! Andrew and I have had a fun time looking back and gathering fun facts for the last 8 years, I’m eager to share these with you in the next few days. Until then, what do you think of the new look?
In an attempt to do some spring cleaning, we have removed all of our old posts (2008-2015)… so sorry! If you are looking for a post in particular you can shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Over the last year or so I’ve really been expanding the design work I do for local businesses. I’ve had a design project in my head that I wanted to work on for a few months now, but just haven’t had the time. I actually have several projects that have been put in the “I’ll get to it in January” pile.
Well, it’s January! I’m so excited to announce take heart. an encouragement card line made to encourage sisters in Christ. This idea came to life mainly because I am a serial pinner of bible versus that warm my soul. So many times I’ve been discouraged, felt inadequate, or stressed and all of those feelings go away within a few minutes of reading The Word, praying, and giving it all to God.
Women are notorious for being hard on themselves, here is a simple way to lift up your friends and encourage your sisters in Christ.
take heart. be encouraged. feel hopeful. feel more confident. be brave.
